Red Tractor continues to build consumer confidence in UK food and farming by being the only whole-chain scheme that ensures food and drink has been checked from farm to pack.
Today our logo is the most recognised food assurance logo with 75% of British shoppers and diners already familiar with the Red Tractor. For them, our logo is a mark of confidence that food and drink is traceable, safe and farmed with care.
We continue to drive consumers to Red Tractor products through investing in annual campaigns. Our activity has reached 76% of UK primary shoppers through a £2 million+ campaign across TV, print, digital and social media. Our consumer activity is delivering the right results, with seven out of ten British shoppers saying their purchasing decisions are influenced positively by our logo and 43% of people would trade up on seeing the Red Tractor logo.
Our standards have been recognised as world-leading* and our in-house technical team are constantly evolving these standards in collaboration with scientists and independent experts from all sectors and stages of the UK food chain.
We operate a whole-chain scheme starting at UK farms and covering transport, livestock markets, food processing and packing. Our farming standards cover most primary agriculture sectors (excluding fish and eggs) and for most UK farming systems such as indoor and free range chicken production. The length, breadth and depth of our sectors and standards is unparalleled by any other UK food assurance scheme.

Compliance to our standards is at the core of our business to ensure a robust scheme that protects the integrity of our licensees. Each of our agriculture sectors has around 160 individual standards. That’s over 1,000 standards being used by 78,000 farmers (including devolved regions of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales) across the country. Independent inspectors check each farm against our rigorous standards regularly every 12 to 18 months; all other steps in the food chain are audited annually to check compliance across the whole Red Tractor food chain.
To drive greater compliance, we have introduced a risk-based approach to farm and grower inspections, which focuses on those members who require more support in achieving the standards consistently. For these members, we have increased their inspection frequency by introducing additional unannounced spot checks.

Reducing Audit Burden and Complexity
In order for food and drink to carry the Red Tractor logo, or for a food business to make claims about Red Tractor, the whole supply chain must be certified by independent inspectors at every stage from farm to pack including farms, transport, livestock markets, food processing and packing. This length, breadth and depth of sectors and standards is unparalleled by any other UK food assurance scheme.
By using Red Tractor to validate your supply chain, you can reduce risk and complexity and demonstrate the due diligence that customers and consumers demand.
We have worked with government to achieve several ‘earned recognition’ agreements which means Red Tractor members are inspected less often by government agencies. We also work with other assurance bodies such as LEAF, the Soil Association and, most recently, Global Gap and Tesco Nurture to reduce or combine audits in an effort to reduce the audit burden for our farmers, growers and licensees.
Red Tractor also works with other internationally recognised schemes which means we can support your business to drive export opportunities.
As well as our consumer campaigns, we work with our licensees and the wider food chain to maximise the value of membership by developing tailored campaigns to support sales of Red Tractor products. Once you become licensed, you will be assigned an Account Manager to support your Red Tractor promotional and communication activity.
