Under the Red Tractor scheme, catering butchers and any business that receives in Red Tractor certified product and further prepares it for sale as an ingredient component or final retail product is considered a Processor or Packer. This could be for sale to a final retail customer, a wholesaler or another processor or packer business in the chain.

These businesses will need to apply for a Red Tractor Processor & Packer Licence.

As a Red Tractor Processor or Packer, all your suppliers and customers will need to hold a valid licence and you will also need to keep your own Red Tractor certification status up to date through meeting our licensing requirements outlined here.

Red Tractor Wholesaler Licensee

Under the Red Tractor scheme, Wholesalers and Distributors are involved in the re-distribution of certified Red Tractor products but they are prohibited from re-packing, labelling or processing the product in any way. Splitting outer cartons is permitted but individual packs cannot be tampered with, split or broken down further.

These businesses will need to apply for a Red Tractor Wholesaler Licence.

As a Red Tractor Wholesaler, you will need to declare your Red Tractor products and suppliers at the application stage and keep these details up to date.

Red Tractor Trader Licensee

A Broker or Trader facilitates the movement of Red Tractor certified products, as a third party, within a Red Tractor supply chain but does not take physical ownership of the goods.

Operators like this will need to apply for a Red Tractor Trader Licence.

As a Red Tractor Trader, you will be required to declare your customers, suppliers and products at the application stage and keep these details up to date.

Red Tractor Food Service Licensee

This includes any Food Service operator that makes or prepares food for general consumption by the public whether in a Restaurant, School, Pub, Catering Kitchen or Hospital. Any business in this sector that makes a Red Tractor claim as part of its sourcing policy and/or wider communication to consumers either by using a logo or in any copy (for example, on a menu or website) must be a licensee.

Businesses of this nature will be required to apply for a Red Tractor Food Service Licence.

As a Red Tractor Food Service Licensee, you will be required to provide a list of the products you intend to make a Red Tractor claim on, declare your licensed suppliers, inform us where the products will be sold and keep these details up to date.
